Feb. 22, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV indoor track & field team will travel to Albuquerque for the 2012 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning Thursday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb. 24. This will be the fifth time in the 13-year history of the league that the MW Championships will be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Friday's action begins with the women's long jump (Trials/Finals) at noon PT on the field and the women's 5000 meters at 12:30 pm PT on the track.
"We are going into this weekend's Mountain West Championships with the intent of finishing in the top of the pack," said head coach Yvonne Scott-Wade. "We have worked very hard to establish a well-rounded program that has depth in all the event groups, and I believe that is what we are going in to this competition with. The team is hungrier than ever and is ready to make a statement this weekend."
Amanda Bingson and Danielle Rios are two Rebels that look to perform well in Friday's women's weight throw, which begins at 2:30 pm PT. Bingson finished second in the event at the 2011 MW Indoor Championships, and comes into the weekend with a 70-3.50 (21.42m) program-best performance in her last outing.
Deja Edwards, Ashley Henry and Zadia Bryant are a trio of Rebels participating in the jumps. Edwards will compete in the long and triple jumps, while Bryant will join her in the latter event. Henry, on the other hand, will enter the high jump competition.
On the track, Kelsey Williamson, Brett Zorich and Laura Affeld will run in the 800m, while Lauren Petersen will enter the 3000m and 5000m distances. Emily Blok and Bryant are both lined up to perform in the 60m and 200m. Secoral Yanez will run in the 200m, as well, besides the 400m. Christine Lowe is also slated to run in the 400. Erin Morris and Erin Straughter will both compete in the 60m hurdles.
