Cale Simmons Invited to NCAA Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Air Force pole vaulter Cale Simmons will make his first appearance at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships, the national office announced this evening (March 5) with the release of the championship field
The junior automatically qualified for the national meet on Feb. 11, when he recorded an Academy-record clearance of 18'1¼". Simmons, who was named the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year earlier today, is currently ranked second in the nation. The native of Rocklin, Calif., is one of just three juniors entered in the 17-member competition.
Teammate Rob Simmons is ranked 11th in the nation with a clearance of 17'8½", but will not compete at the national meet as he recovers from injury.
The championship meet will be held Friday-Saturday (March 9-10) in Nampa, Idaho. The men's pole vault is scheduled for at 6:30 p.m., on Friday, March 9, at Jackson Indoor Track.
