Just A Matter Of Time

March 5, 2013

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program missed out on sending two of its own to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which begins on Friday, March 8. The national meet takes the top 16 times for each event, and the Rebel times fell just shy of the threshold for qualification.

Emily Blok, a two-time winner at the 2013 MW Indoor Championships, was left out of the 60m and 200m races by .04 and .1 seconds, respectively. Blok ran personal-best efforts - 7.38 (60m) and 23.63 (200m) - in both events at the conference meet.

UNLV's smallest margin of separation came in the 800m with Kelsey Williamson's time of 2:06.06 - a personal best - which was a mere .03 seconds from making the cut.

"We are obviously disappointed that these two athletes will not get the opportunity to compete at the indoor national championships," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "They are ready to get it done outdoors, and they'll work hard to get to the NCAA Championships this June in Oregon."

The program will now shift its focus to the outdoor season which began last weekend at home with the UNLV Track Classic. The Rebels will have this upcoming weekend off before hosting the UNLV Invitational on March 15-16 at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field.
