Gipson and Morrison Are Scholar-Athletes of the Month

FORT WORTH – TCU has named women’s track & field member Whitney Gipson and men’s baseball player Preston Morrison its Scholar Athletes of the Month for February.
Gipson is the collegiate-leader in the long jump, having marked 21-103�4 (6.67m) to win the Mountain West title and snap the TCU and MW Championships record for the event. The senior from North Richland Hills, Texas scored 18 points at the MW Championships meet with a seventh-place showing in the triple jump and third-place nod in the 200.
Her fifth and final jump at the MW Championships broke several records, such as breaking both MW and TCU benchmarks. Gipson also won the long jump event at the Texas 10-Team Invitation and Texas A&M invite earlier this season.
Morrison, of Waxham, North Carolina, was named MW Pitcher of the Week on February 20 for his performance against No. 22 Ole Miss. He earned TCU’s first win of the season as a relief pitcher in the fifth inning, retiring all 10 batters he faced.
Morrison finished his freshman debut this month with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances and a 2-0 record. He allowed four hits in 8 1/3 innings pitched, struck out four, and walked one.
