Two MW Student-Athletes Crowned Individual Championships on Day One of NCAA Indoor Championships

NAMPA, Idaho -

New Mexico’s Kendall Spencer and TCU’s Whitney Gipson were crowned national champions in the men’s and women’s long jump events, respectively, at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday at Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho.

Spencer won the men’s long jump with a school-record mark of 26’-3.50,” while Gipson claimed the gold medal in the women's long jump, leaping a top mark of 22’-8.00.”

Gipson’s mark ties the NCAA all-time record set by Auburn's Elva Goulbourne and sets new benchmarks for TCU, the Mountain West, Jacksons Track Complex and NCAA Indoor Championships meet. Her mark is tied for the world lead and is an Olympic standard.
