Falcons Wrap Up Action at Various Weekend Meets

PUEBLO, Colo. - While the majority of the Air Force track and field team was in Arizona, several members wrapped up competition at other meets over the March 23-24 weekend. Nine Falcons participated at the CSU-Pueblo Open in Pueblo, Colo., while one competed at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational in Irvine, Calif.

Nate Bratka collected the best finish by a member of the Air Force contingent in Pueblo, as he was the runner-up in the javelin throw after improving his career-best distance by nearly seven feet to 176'8". The sophomore also finished 16th in the shot put with a toss of 40'4". Senior Jared Barkemeyer tossed a personal-best 165'0" to finish eighth in the hammer throw, while junior Shane Cox finished 14th with a career-best distance of 147'2". Cox also finished ninth in the discus throw (136'3") and 13th in the shot put (43'1¾").

Sophomore Dan Bieber also competed in a pair of events, finishing 14th in his 800-meter debut (2:03.66) and 20th in the 400-meter dash (51.67). Junior Matt Bell placed seventh in the 1500-meter run (4:03.90), while freshman Bryce Mitchell took 11th in the 110-meter hurdles (16.79).

On the women's side, sophomore Libby Westfall finished eighth in the pole vault with a clearance of 10'0", while senior Katie Carroll placed 10th in the 800-meter run (2:26.05). Sophomore Heather Shepard finished 11th in the 100-meter dash (13.17) and 15th in the 400-meter dash (1:00.45).

Junior Brenden Birdsell represented the Falcons at the UC Irvine Spring Break Invitational in California, placing eighth in the discus throw with a toss of 155'2".
