March 28, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU junior Charles Silmon has been selected as the Mountain West Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, while junior Chaniqua Corinealdi was named MW Co-Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, sharing the honor with Paige Blackburn from Air Force.
Silmon finished first among collegiate competitors in the men’s 100-meter dash last weekend at the Bobby Lane Invitational, posting a time of 10.22 seconds to earn runner-up honors in the event. In a field filled with unattached competitors, the Waco, Texas native was one of the only two collegiate athletes to finish in the top-15, finishing only behind U.S. Olympian Darvis Patton. He also represented TCU on both relay squads, leading the Horned Frogs to third-place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 races, respectively.
Corinealdi paced TCU’s women’s squad at the Bobby Lane Invitational, finishing first among collegiate competitors in the women’s 100-meter dash with a personal-best time of 11.60 seconds. Corinealdi returned to the track to lead all collegians and claim third overall in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 23.72 seconds. She also teamed up with senior Whitney Gipson, sophomore Veronica Jones and freshman Lorraine Ugen to win the women’s 4x100 relay with a season’s best time of 44.82 seconds.
TCU will return to action this week for the historic Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, March 28-31.
