Falcons Wrap Up Action at Spring Break Meets

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - With the Academy on spring break last week, members of the Air Force track and field team traveled to meets around the country over the March 29-30 weekend, representing the Falcons in competitions ranging from Washington to Georgia.
Sophomore Danielle Tabb accounted for a Meet Record of 46'8¼" in the shot put during her winning performance at Puget Sound's Peyton Scoring Meet in Tacoma, Wash. In addition to her win in the shot put, Tabb also placed within the top four of the discus and hammer throw, behind career-best marks. Tabb improved her distance in the discus throw to 128'2" to finish second, while adding over five feet to her mark in the hammer throw (135'4") to finish fourth.
In addition, freshman Grant Hamilton won the shot put at Oklahoma Baptist's Bison Invitational in Shawnee, Okla., while senior Bizzy Mellado tied for first in the pole vault at the North Central College First Chance Track and Field Invitational in Naperville, Ill. Hamilton used a career-best throw of 51'4½" to better the OBU shot put field by four feet, while Mellado recorded a clearance of 11'6¼" to equal the best clearance in the pole vault at NCC.
In addition to Tabb, several throwers competed in multiple events at their respective meets. Senior Katy Moorkamp recorded a career-best shot put of 40'4¾" (eighth) at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis, Mo., while finishing third in the discus throw with a distance of 135'0". Fellow senior Shane Cox used season-best marks to finish fourth in both the shot put (45'6½") and discus throw (137'0") at the Mines' Front Range Invitational in Golden, Colo., while classmate Brendon Birdsell placed fifth in the hammer throw (137'7") and seventh in the discus throw (143'10") at the Point Loma Nazarene Collegiate Invitational in San Diego, Calif.
Two Falcons placed within the top 10 of the hammer throw at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, as junior Jalen Fooster finished fifth with a toss of 183'3" and classmate William Kent recorded a career-best distance of 181'2". Junior Alana Piccone finished 10th in the javelin throw at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., after recording a toss of 107'2".
Junior Carl Eifert competed in the lone running event this past weekend for the Falcons, clocking a career-best time of 9:31.59 in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. Eifert shaved nearly two seconds off of his previous time to finish seventh in the event.
The Falcons open the outdoor season at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex this week with the Air Force Combined Events Meet (April 4-5) and the Air Force Relays (April 6).
