Air Force Concludes Action at Several Spring Break Meets

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Several members of the Air Force track and field team participated in various meets around the country during the March 30-31 weekend. The competitions, which concluded during the final weekend of the Academy's spring break, ranged from Fort Collins, Colo., to Atlanta, Ga., Cedarville, Ohio, St. Louis, Mo., and Fullerton, Calif.

Three members of the men's throwing team traveled to Fort Collins, Colo., for the Fum McGraw Open.

Senior Sean Herbison was the runner-up in the shot put, with a season-best toss of 53'1 ¾" and paced the trio with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw (178'9"), while placing 11th in the discus throw (152'5"). Sophomore Nate Bratka tossed a 166'5" to finish fourth in the javelin throw, while also finishing 10th in the discus throw (153'10"), 11th in the shot put (45'4¼") and 17th in the hammer throw (139'1"). Classmate Shane Cox earned a top-10 finish in the shot put (46'4¾", ninth), while placing 14th in the discus throw (143'4") and 15th in the hammer throw (144'0").

Several other Falcons competed at meets close to their hometowns during the Academy's spring break.

At the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis, Mo., junior Katy Moorkamp placed third in the discus throw with a mark of 134'5". Freshman Rebecca Esselstein clocked a career-best 2:21.54 to take fourth in the 800-meter run at the Cedarville Collegiate Yellow Jacket Open in Cedarville, Ohio.

On the men's side, sophomore Jalen Fooster finished second in the hammer throw (168'6") and sixth in the discus throw (145'10") at the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Invitational, while classmate William Kent finished fourth in the hammer throw (155'2") at that meet. Freshman Elliot Myers clocked a career-best time of 3:59.96 to finish fifth in the 1500-meter run at the Titan Twilight in Fullerton, Calif.

Air Force returns to the Academy next week to dedicate the newly renovated Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex. The Falcons will host the AF Outdoor Combined Events Meet on Thursday-Friday (April 5-6), before hosting the first Air Force Relays on Saturday, April 7.
