Arter Nabs Conference Honor after Setting School Record
April 2, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — University of New Mexico junior Charlotte Arter has been named Mountain West Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested from March 27 to April 1. This is the first such recognition of her career.
Arter, in her first track and field race for New Mexico, ran to a school-record time in the 1,500-meter run of 4 minutes, 19.03 seconds. She tied for fourth overall and placed third collegiately.
Arter also broke the 28-year-old New Mexico benchmark of 4:20.38 set by Kristi Leonard in 1985.
As a result of her time, Arter also leads the Mountain West in the metric mile by over five seconds, and sits fourth in the NCAA. She also ranks third in the NCAA's West Region, likely qualifying her to the NCAA First-Round Qualifying Meet in May.
Air Force senior Cale Simmons was selected on the men's side.
