Mountain West Announces Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week - April 9, 2013

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico redshirt junior Kendall Spencer was named Mountain West Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, while Boise State redshirt sophomore Marisa VanderMalle was selected MW Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for meets held April 2-8. It is the second career MW weekly honor for Spencer and first for VanderMalle.
Spencer, from San Mateo, Calif., won the Long Jump, finished fourth in the 100 Meters and was a part of the Lobos' winning 4x100 Relay at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational on April 6. Spencer's Long Jump mark of 25'-0.25'' (7.63m) leads the MW by 3.5 inches and also ranks ninth in the nation this season. He set a new personal record in the 100 Meters, finishing in 10.58 (altitude adjusted, 10.55 raw), which is the second-fastest time in the MW. Spencer also helped the Lobos' 4x100 Relay post the fourth-best time in the MW this season at 41.28 (altitude adjusted, 41.16 raw).
VanderMalle, a Pasco, Wash., native, won the 3000 Steeplechase at the All-Idaho Cup on April 6. Her time of 10:31.77 is a new meet and personal record and is also the second-best time in Boise State history. VanderMalle leads the MW in the event and ranks 36th nationally.
