Former UW Track Coach Dies

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Former University of Wyoming track and field coach Duane Schopp died April 7 after battling cancer.
Schopp coached the UW track and cross country teams from 1984-97 and coached 10 student-athletes who achieved All-America status. During his time at Wyoming, Schopp led the men's cross country program to Western Athletic Conference titles from 1985-87. The 1986 squad earned a trip to the NCAA Championships, and in his tenure, he was named WAC Coach of the Year six times.
Previously, Schopp was the head coach at the University of South Dakota.
Schopp was the athletic director for Central High School in Cheyenne from 1997-2011. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Storey Gym in Cheyenne, followed by a reception at Cheyenne Central.
