COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
New Mexico redshirt sophomore Kendall Spencer has been selected as the Mountain West Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, while New Mexico senior Sarah Waldron has been named MW Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
Spencer, a product of San Mateo, Calif., set a new Mountain West all-time record in the men's long jump at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M., posting a mark of 26'-8.25" (8.13m) to earn first-place honors in the event. Spencer's leap tied a New Mexico 47-year program record set by Clarence Robinson in 1965, is an Olympic A Standard, and ranks first in the NCAA and second in the world in 2012.
Waldron, a native of Pudleston, England, set a new MW all-time record in the women's 10,000-meter race last weekend at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., clocking a time of 32:35.07 to finish fourth overall in the event. Waldron's time is also a New Mexico program record, a personal-best performance, and ranks second in the country during the 2012 outdoor season.
