FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State track & field team will send a handful of athletes to the state of California this weekend to compete at four different meets, with action beginning on Thursday and lasting through Saturday. Most of the action will take place at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., which spans all three days.

The CSU distance crew will participate at the Mt. SAC relays on Thursday and Friday. Whitney Henderson, coming off a victory in the 1,500-meter run at the CU Invitational, will participate in the same event Thursday in Walnut. She leads a group of women’s distance runners that will participate in various events on throughout the two days. Similarly, the distance men will participate in Walnut Thursday and Friday in various events, most notably the 10,000-meter run, which will be held Thursday. Among its participants will be Andrew Lesser, Ben Larson and Jacob Morgan. A few members of the distance squad will continue on to run at Azusa Pacific’s Bryan Clay Invitational Friday and Long Beach State’s Beach Invitational Saturday.

Trevor Brown, Sam Little and Stephanie Gerber constitute the hurdles squad travelling to California. The three athletes are set to participate at the Cal State Twilight Open on Thursday night, the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday and Saturday, and the Beach Track & Field Invitational Saturday.

The jumpers have a more laid-back schedule, as Graham Gilliland, Cheyenne Hall, Ashley Reid and Jazmyn Webster are slated to compete at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday and the Beach Track & Field Invitational Saturday.

The throwers start the weekend at the Cal State Twilight Open on Thursday. They continue action at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday, with a few athletes also slated to compete at Azusa’s Bryan Clay Invitational and Long Beach State’s Beach Track & Field Invitational. They wrap up the weekend with a full schedule on Saturday at Long Beach. Kiah Hicks lead’s the women’s throwers into the weekend, looking to build on her impressive performance from the CU Invitational. She is currently ranked 9th in Division I for the women’s discus throw in the 2013 outdoor season.

All in all, it’s sure to be an exciting weekend for the Rams.  Colorado State currently ranks fourth out of 19 teams in the USTFCCCA Mountain Region on the women’s side, while holding a fifth-place ranking out of 17 teams on the men’s side.
