T&F Signee Named All-Valley Basketball POY

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State track and field signee Ariel Oliver has been named the 2012 All-Valley Girls Basketball Player of the Year by Emerald Valley News-Register.

Oliver helped lead McMinnville (Ore.) High School to a 16-8 record, rallying back from an injury to help the team in the state tournament. Oliver plays basketball in preparation for the outdoor track and field season, where she is a two-time state champion in the discus.

Last season, Oliver had the best discus throw in the state of Oregon and the 50th-best in the country with a toss of 147 feet, three inches. She also had the 17th-best mark in the shot put (39-06). This year, Oliver has the top discus throw in Oregon and the 45th-best in the nation at 140-11.

Oliver will join the Aztecs in the fall of 2012.
