Silmon Honored By Mountain West Wednesday

April 25, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas - For a second-straight week and the fourth time this spring, junior Charles Silmon was named Mountain West Co-Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Wednesday afternoon.

Silmon collected individual titles in the men’s 100 and 200 meters, respectively, last Saturday at the Michael Johnson Dr Pepper Classic in Waco. The Waco native crossed the finish line in the men’s 100 meters with a personal-best time of 10.15 seconds. That time currently ranks second in Mountain West history and is No. 5 in the NCAA this spring. By clocking 10.15 seconds, Silmon also hit the Olympic Trials A Standard, which qualifies him for the Olympic Trials in June in Eugene, Ore.

He returned to the track to capture first-place accolades in the men’s 200 meters with a seasonal-best time of 20.65, which ranks first in the conference and 20th in the NCAA during the outdoor campaign. Silmon was also a part of TCU’s 4x100 quartet that earned runner-up honors with a time of 39.91.

This is the fourth weekly honor for Silmon this spring and sixth overall during 2012.
