May 14, 2013

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Eight Wyoming track and field athletes were honored as All-MW recipients by the Mountain West Conference for their performances last week at the 2013 MW Outdoor Championships in Las Vegas.

Five Cowboys and three Cowgirls were recognized for their top-three finishes in their respective events at the championships, which took place May 8-11 at Sheila Tarr-Smith Field at UNLV's Partridge Stadium. Brandon Douglass (110m hurdles), Henry Ferreira (javelin), Stephen Michel (long jump), Joe Plante (hammer) and Jaymes Talkington (triple jump) were the Cowboys honored, while Mollie Dahl (shot put), Jenna Mann (heptathlon, 100 hurdles) and Holly Page (10,000m run) represented the women's side.

"Everyone who received this honor represented the program well and gave everything they had to finish strong," said Wyoming coach Bryan Berryhill. "They showed what kind of talent we have at Wyoming and set the standard for UW track and field athletes in years to come."

Ferreira won his first ever MW javelin title with a school-record throw of 224 feet, earning 10 team points as he topped Guy Tucker's mark of 223 feet from the 1995 season to achieve the UW all-time best distance. He also beat a personal best of 212'-2" set earlier in the season.

Talkington's third-place triple jump of 49'-1.50" was a personal best, beating his former best distance of 48'-7.50" for ninth place on the UW all-time best distances for the event.

Jenna Mann broke a personal record in the heptathlon with a tally of 5,200 points throughout the seven combined events, breaking her previous best of 5,074 set earlier in the year at the Mt. SAC Relays. The 5,200 points reset her UW No. 2 all-time heptathlon rank and came within 58 points of Kathy Romsa's UW-best 5,258 from the 1984 season.

This year's MW Men's Coach of the Year award was presented to Air Force's Ralph Lindeman, while San Diego State's Shelia Burrell was honored with the Women's Coach of the Year accolade. Boise State sophomore Daveon Collins earned the MW Men's Outstanding Performer Award, while San Diego State's Allison Reaser won the Women's Outstanding Performer Award.
