May 16, 2012
FORT WORTH – Junior Cameron Parker and Freshman Lorraine Ugen have been named TCU Athletes of the Week after their performances in the 2012 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend in USAFA, Colo.
Parker won the men’s triple jump for a second-straight year with a personal-best leap of 52 feet, 4.5 inches. Parker’s leap was the sixth-best jump in program history and the 13th-best leap in the NCAA this spring. He joins former Frog Jonathan Jackson as the only Horned Frogs to ever repeat as champion in the men’s triple jump.
Parker is from Nassau, Bahamas and shined at the conference meet for the second-straight year. Last year, he won the MW Championship in the triple jump with a distance of 51 feet, 10 inches. He earned All-Mountain West Team honors in the triple jump after claiming the championship this past weekend.
Ugen won the women’s 100 meters with a personal and seasonal-best time of 11.35 seconds, earning the third-best time in Mountain West Championship history. Her time currently ranks No. 16 in the NCAA and is the eight-fastest time ever recorded in program history. Ugen also finished in second-place in the triple jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11.5 inches.
A native of London, England, Ugen earned all-conference recognition in the 100 meters, long jump, and as a member of the women’s 4x100 that claimed first-place accolades.
TCU will have a week off before returning to action at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Austin on May 24-26.
