FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State’s track and field team will be represented by 14 athletes this weekend, as it competes at the NCAA West regional in Austin, Tex., beginning Thursday.

“We have certain athletes that have a legitimate shot to advance to nationals,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard. “For our younger athletes it gives them a chance to see what it’s all about.”

Nicole Peters secured the Rams’ highest seed (9) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Peters along with Kaitlin Hanenburg will run at 8:30 p.m. MST Friday night.

Trevor Brown and Kelby Dias are seeded 12th and 37th, respectively, in the first round of the 110-meter hurdles, which takes place at 4 p.m. MST Friday.

Hannah Pensack-Rinehart enters the meet seeded 14th in the 10,000-meter run, which is scheduled for an 8:40 p.m. MST start Thursday. Pensack-Rinehart will be joined by Kendra Gerk and Sarah Heuer.

CSU will also be represented by Alex Balsiger (1,500 meters), Kiah Hicks (Shot put, discus and hammer), Holly Keeper (1,500 meters), Jessica Sharbono (Discus), Jenna Sliwinski (Hammer), Kenisha Throughsingh (Hammer) and Meaghann Peak (Triple jump).

“These athletes are the cream of the crop of our program,” added Bedard. “You can throw times and distances out the window, it’s just about beating people now.”

The top 12 finishers in each event advance to the NCAA national championships in Des Moines, Iowa June 6-9.
