Track & field preview: Brown, Sharbono, Reid set to compete at NCAA championships
June 4, 2013
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Jessica Sharbono, Trevor Brown and Ashley Reid will represent Colorado State at the Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning Thursday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Not hampered by the weather delays of last weekend's meet in Austin, Sharbono threw the discus 174 feet, 1 inch, just six inches short of her personal-best distance of 174-7. She will throw in the finals on Thursday.
Brown will face tough competition in the 110-meter hurdles Thursday, with two of the top three setting season bests in the preliminary round last weekend. The Colorado Springs native will look to improve on his personal record of 13.65 seconds, set earlier this season.
The top two from each of the three heats plus the next best two times will advance to the finals. Should Brown advance, he will run again on Saturday.
Reid tied her season-best 5 feet, 8.75 inches in the preliminary round and is hoping to set a career-best over 5-10.5 on Saturday. The Johnson County Community College transfer is competing in her first NCAA Division-I championship this year.
