MW Institutions Send 24 Individuals, Three Relay Teams to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Mountain West member institutions will send a combined 24 individuals and three relay teams to compete at the 91st Annual Men's and 31st Annual Women's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, to be held June 6-9 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

On the men's side, 10 individuals from five institutions will represent the MW in seven events. Boise State's Kurt Felix set a new Mountain West all-time record in the men's decathlon (7,972 points) at the Mt. SAC Relays/CA Invitational Multi Events. That mark ranks third in the NCAA this season. Colorado State's Trevor Brown enters the NCAA Championships leading the league in the 110-meter hurdles after clocking the fastest time in MW history (13.75 seconds) at the Mt. SAC Relays. Air Force's Cale Simmons owns the third-best pole vault mark in the country, recording a leap of 18'-1.75" (5.53m) at the Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 9th.

For the women, six of eight MW institutions will send a total of 14 student-athletes to the NCAA Championships to compete in 14 individual events. UNLV's Amanda Bingson owns the top hammer throw mark in the NCAA this season. Her throw of 228'-10.00" (69.75m), recorded at the Randall Cunningham Invitational on April 13, is also a program record and ranks third in MW history. In the long jump, TCU's Lorraine Ugen ranks first in the NCAA after posting a mark of 22'-5.00" (6.83m) at the TCU Invitational on March 15th. Horned Frog teammate Whitney Gipson, NCAA national champion in the women's long jump during the indoor season, own the third best mark in the country [(21'-10.75" (6.67m)]. New Mexico senior Sarah Waldron ranks third in the country in the 10,000-meter run, clocking a time of 32:36.07 at the Stanford Invitational on April 6th.
