DES MOINES, IowaNicole Peters earned second-team all-America honors Friday, finishing 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA championships at Drake Stadium.

The senior from Houston, Texas, posted a time of 10 minutes, 46.1 seconds in the finals of the event.

“It wasn’t her best race of the year but she exceeded expectations,” said distance coach Bryan Berryhill. “She has a lot to be proud of for what she has done for this program.”

Peters leaves CSU as the school record holder in the 5,000-meter run. She was also the 2012 Mountain West 3,000-meter steeplechase champion.

“She is a once in a lifetime person,” added Berryhill. “She’s a great athlete with all her records but she’s also one of the best people you will ever meet. I feel blessed to have coached her and her teammates are blessed to have competed with her.”
