O'Brien Named To Capital One Academic All-America Team

FORT WORTH, Texas - Senior Jack O'Brien was honored on Thursday as a 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
O'Brien closed his career earning All-Mountain West honors in the men's 800 meters after placing third overall at the 2012 Mountain West Championships. He will leave Fort Worth as a two-time NCAA Championship quarterfinal participant and multiple Academic All-Mountain West selection.
O'Brien, who earned USTFCCCA Academic All-America and MW Scholar-Athlete accolades a year ago, posted the highest MCAT score in TCU history during the 2011-12 school year. He was recently named the recipient of Dutch Meyer Male Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, which is the highest academic honor a TCU student-athlete can receive. O'Brien also earned MW Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Mountain West this past week.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
