June 22, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field assistant coach Khadevis Robinson and former Rebel student-athlete Lekeisha Lawson (2005-09) advanced to the semifinals in their respective events at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials with their first round performances Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Robinson finished first in his 800m heat with a final time of 1:47.30 and will be seeded eighth overall. Lawson sits 13th overall in the 100m after placing second in her heat with an 11.34 finish.
Lawson will be the first of the pair to hit the track on Saturday with the 100m set for 3:40 pm, while Robinson's 800m race will follow over an hour later at 4:45 pm.
Robinson and Lawson competed one day after UNLV's Amanda Bingson had her ticket punched for the 2012 London Olympics with her second-place showing in the women's hammer throw. Christine Spence, another former Rebel student-athlete (2001-05), is in Oregon, but must wait until next Thursday, June 28 to participate in the women's 400m hurdles.
