June 23, 2013

DES MOINES, Iowa (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program got strong showings from a pair of its former alumnae in the 400m hurdles at two different national meets on Sunday. Christine Spence (2001-05) finished third overall behind a time of 54.56 at the 2013 USA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, while Christine Lowe (2009-12) was the runner-up in her race at the 2013 Canadian Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Spence's effort at historic Drake Stadium meets the "A" Standard of 55.40, and it qualifies her to run for Team USA at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow from Aug. 10-18. She will be joined by Amanda Bingson (2009-12) in Russia after the 2012 US Olympian rewrote the American record in the hammer throw twice over en route to winning the 2013 national title yesterday in Iowa. Bingson's mark of 248-5 (75.73m) easily surpassed the "A" Standard (72.00m) in the event.
