Harriers Claim Desert Invite Title

BOULDER CITY, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebel cross country team claimed the 2012 UNLV Desert Invitational title with behind its 45-point team score on Saturday morning from Veterans Memorial Park in nearby Boulder City. UNLV was paced by top-four finishes from Lauren Petersen (19:38.1) and Laura Affeld (19:52.1), who finished second and fourth in the women's collegiate/open 5K, respectively.

UNLV finished nine points ahead of second-place Grand Canyon and its 54 points. Dixie State (57 points) and Cal State Northridge (60) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Dixie State's Rachel Young crossed the line first in a time of 19:12.7, while her teammate, Brianna Decker, was third (19:48.0).

The Rebels got points from Auzsane Crowe-Carter (10th overall, 20:40.1), Amanda Berg (12th, 20:40.3) and Corey Honeycutt (17th, 20:59.2). Courtney Allen (23rd, 21:31.5), Katie Cochran (24th, 21:44.2), Allison Motor (22:51.9) and Iris Minguia (23:03.0) also ran for the Scarlet & Gray on Saturday.

UNLV returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6, at the UC San Diego's Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.
