March 3, 2012
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Wofford completed a doubleheader sweep of Air Force Saturday with a 5-4 win in game two Saturday evening at King Field. The loss drops the Falcons to 3-7, while the Terriers improve to 6-4. Air Force lost game one 2-0.
Air Force could not hold a 4-1 lead, as Wofford rallied with a four-run eighth inning. The Falcons squandered another strong pitching performance from senior right-hander Evan Abrecht, who held the Terriers to one run over six innings, while striking out five. It was Abrecht's third non-decision of the season.
After trailing 1-0 early on, the Falcon bats woke up with a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 4-1 lead. Noah Pierce hit an RBI-single to knock in David Thomas for the first run in the fifth and Tyler Saleck then scored Pierce on a sac bunt for the second run.
Wofford rallied in the eighth after Falcon reliever Mike Kazakoff pitched a scoreless seventh. The Terriers pieced together two hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch to score the four runs.
Wofford reliever Alex Wilson (1-0) picked up the win. Terrier starting pitcher Jesse Morris pitched six innings, allowing four runs off six hits.
The Falcons had seven hits on the day. Garrett Custons led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double and stolen base. Wofford had seven hits as well, led by leadoff hitter James Foster, who had two hits and an RBI.
Air Force returns to action Sunday at USC Upstate. First pitch is 1 p.m. EST.
