UNR Takes Series with 1-0 Win

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – For the third straight day the Rebels and Wolf Pack battled to a one-run game, with UNR gaining the series win following a 1-0 victory here today at Wilson Stadium.
The Rebels (6-6) had scoring chances in both the eighth and ninth innings, with runners on second and third in the eighth and first and second in the ninth, but could not capitalize.
UNR (7-4) got on the board in the third when Joe Kohan found the gap in right center for a stand up triple. Kohan would score what would be the game’s only run one batter later on Jay Anderson’s groundout to first.
UNLV starting pitcher Erick Fedde was charged with his first loss of the season after scattering eight hits over eight innings of work, giving up one run while striking out six.
Nevada, Reno start Tom Jameson threw 7.0 innings, yielding just four hits and striking out three for his first win of the season.
With two outs in the ninth, Marvin Campbell drilled a pinch-hit double to the gap in right center and Casey Sato drew a pinch-hit walk off UNR closer Matt Gardner to give the Rebels one last chance. Gardner was able to get Danny Higa, who was 2-for-3 on the day ,to strike out swinging to end the game, giving him his fifth save of the season and second in as many days.
The Rebels will continue action at home on Tuesday, March 6 against Southern Utah. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. from Wilson Stadium.
