FRESNO, Calif. --- In a midweek non-conference match-up between two familiar foes, the Fresno State baseball team suffered a 10-3 loss to San Jose State on Tuesday night at Beiden Field.

Fresno State found itself quickly behind due to some erratic pitching and costly errors in giving up five runs in the first three innings.

Bulldogs' freshman Brody Russell launched his first career home run - a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the third - and the 'Dogs scored twice in the fourth to cut the early deficit to 5-3 after four.

However, the Bulldogs' bullpen allowed five unanswered runs over the next four frames that helped hand the Spartans their third win of the season.

Fresno State (3-7) returns to action on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. PT in Berkeley when the Bulldogs visit the California Golden Bears for a four-game series up in the Bay Area.
