Air Force Drops Both Games of Saturday Doubleheader at Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Air Force baseball lost both games of a doubleheader at Portland Saturday at Etzel Field. The Falcons (3-11) dropped game one, 6-2, and game two, 2-1, to the Pilots (10-2).
In game one, Portland broke up a 2-2 tie with four unswered runs to pull away with the win.
Pilot starting pitcher Travis Radke (3-0) held the Falcons to two runs off two hits in six innings pitched, striking out five. J.R. Bunda and Owen Jones combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief to close out the game. Jones picked up his fourth save of the season.
Portland scored two runs in the fourth inning to break up a scoreless tie. The Falcons tied the ballgame up in the sixth inning, as designated hitter Garrett Custons connected for a two-run homer.
The Pilots scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take back the lead. They extended their lead to 6-2 with two runs in the eighth.
In game two, the Falcons lost a 2-1 pitchers' duel. Falcon starting pitcher Ben Bertelson (0-3) held Portland to two runs off six hits in the complete game effort. The junior left-hander struck out six.
Bertelson was out-dueled by Pilot starting pitcher Kody Watts (1-0), who held the Falcons to one run off one hit in five innings pitched. Four Portland relievers combined to pitch four scoreless innings to close out the game. Jones retired the last batter of the game to pick up his third save in as many games and fifth on the season.
Portland scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning on a sac-fly by leadoff hitter Kris Kauppila.
The series finale is Sunday at 1 p.m. PST.
