Falcons Down Rebels, 12-5

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team could not hold off a late Air Force rally, falling by a 12-5 score here today at Falcon Field.
The Rebels (11-13, 1-5 Mountain West) dropped its second straight Mountain West series after giving up 16 hits on the day.
UNLV took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third off Scott Dysinger’s RBI single up the middle. Air Force would answer in the bottom half, scoring three runs on a pair of hits to grab a 3-1 lead.
After a scoreless fourth, Trevor Kirk tied the game at 3-3 with his first home run of the year, a two-run shot to left center off Falcon starter Evan Abrecht. UNLV would regain the lead an inning later when T.J. White singled in Brandon Bayardi.
Air Force (6-15, 2-1 Mountain West) would rally in the seventh and eighth, scoring five and four runs respectively to put the game out of reach. Seth Kline and Casey Gibson each had two-run homers in the seventh to kick start the offensive outburst.
The Falcons added four more in the eighth on four hits to take a 12-5 lead heading into the ninth.
Alex Baker came in to work a hitless ninth, working around two walks to preserve the win for Air Force.
UNLV will be back in action Tuesday night, returning to Wilson Stadium to host Southern Utah. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. PT.
