RENO, Nev. --- The Fresno State baseball team got a strong performance by sophomore right-hander starter Derick Velazquez to defeat Nevada 4-0 on Friday night at Peccole Park.

Fresno State (6-17, 2-4 Mountain West) scored three runs in the fifth and added another in the eighth, while Nevada (16-11, 4-4 MW) was shut out for the first time this season.

Velazquez (2-2) delivered 7.1 innings of scoreless ball while tossing seven strikeouts.

The teams will meet for the rubber match of the three-game MW series on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT, which will be broadcast on 940 AM ESPN Radio.
