Rebels Fall To Lobos 9-0 In Series Opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (27-14, 11-8 Mountain West) fell 9-0 to No. 24 New Mexico (25-16, 15-4) in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Lobo Field.

It is only the second time this season that UNLV has been kept off the scoreboard, as they were shut out by Pacific on February 22.

The Lobos scored three runs in the second and added two in the fourth, sixth and eighth innings to reach their final total.

Leading the charge for New Mexico was Preseason All-American D.J. Peterson, who finished 3-for-4 and recorded his 13th home run of the year. Drew Bridges (3-1) earned the win after pitching 6.0 innings, allowing only three hits and one walk.

UNLV was led by Brandon Bayardi and Erik VanMeetren, as both players finished 2-for-4 on the day. Matt McCallister recorded the only other hit in his only at-bat after entering the game as a defensive replacement in the sixth inning.

Erick Fedde (4-2) took the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings of work. Tyler Iodence came in relief and allowed four runs on six hits in 3.0 innings.

The Rebels and Lobos will be back in action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. MT/12:00 p.m. PT. Projected to get the nod for UNLV will be Buddy Borden (4-1, 2.25 ERA) and projected for New Mexico is Sam Wolff (3-3, 4.25 ERA).
