SAN DIEGO --- The Fresno State baseball team had its six-game Mountain West win streak snapped by the San Diego State Aztecs as the Bulldogs lost 10-8 on Saturday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

Even with the loss, the Bulldogs remain just two games out of a tie for second place in the conference standings as UNLV and San Diego State are now tied at 11-9 in MW play after the Rebels fell to conference-leader New Mexico on Saturday. Fresno State is now tied with Nevada, who won at Air Force earlier in the day, for fourth place at 9-11 in league action.

The top two teams in the final conference standings earn first-round byes for the MW Tournament, which will be hosted by the Bulldogs at Pete Beiden Field from May 22-26. All six MW teams qualify for the tournament and each squad has finished the first two-thirds of conference play with 10 games to play.

After San Diego State took a 4-0 lead with a run in the second and three more in the fourth, Fresno State cut the deficit half with two runs in the top of the fourth.

SDSU struck back with two in the bottom of the fifth before Fresno State took its first lead at 7-6 by scoring five times in the top of the seventh sparked by an Austin Wynns' two-run double.

But Bulldogs' sophomore reliever William Munro (1-4) couldn't hold the lead in giving up the deciding four runs in the bottom half of the seventh that put SDSU up 10-7.

The 'Dogs scratched across a run in the eighth on Garrison's opposite field RBI single, but Fresno State got no closer in dropping its first MW game since an April 14 loss at New Mexico.

Fresno State (14-26, 9-11 Mountain West) and San Diego State (21-21, 11-9 MW) will play game two of the weekend MW series on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT before the closing the set on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT. Both games can be heard live on ESPN 790 AM.
