May 5, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (30-17, 13-11 Mountain West) dropped the series finale 9-4 to Fresno State (16-29, 10-14 MW) on Sunday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
The Rebels took a 3-0 lead after four innings on Senior Day, but the Bulldogs rallied, scoring four runs in the fifth inning. Fresno State added two more insurance runs in the seventh and three in the ninth.
UNLV tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth as Joey Armstrong drove in Mark Shannon with two outs, but the rally ended there as Bulldog relief pitcher Derick Velazquez induced Cody Howard into ground out to the FSU shortstop.
Brayden Torres, who recorded his first career start, allowed three runs on four hits. He struck out four while walking two in 4.2 innings of work. Tyler Iodence, John Richy and Andrew Beresford all pitched in relief for UNLV.
The Rebels will play their final home game of the season tomorrow at 3:05 p.m. against San Diego. Shannon (4-2, 4.08 ERA) is projected to go for UNLV, while the Toreros have yet to name a starter.
