Bombs Away for Judge as Bulldogs Rout Nevada, 10-4
May 17, 2013
FRESNO, Calif. --- The Bulldogs' Aaron Judge blasted two home runs - a 500-foot two-run bomb and a 460-foot solo shot - as the Fresno State baseball team pelted the Nevada Wolf Pack 10-4 on Friday evening on Pete Beiden Field.
With the win, Fresno State (20-31, 13-16 Mountain West) secured the No. 4 seed for the 2013 Mountain West Baseball Championships, which will be hosted by the 'Dogs at Beiden Field from May 22-26. The Bulldogs will open the double-elimination tournament on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. PT versus the fifth-seeded Wolf Pack.
Judge went a scorching 3-for-4 at the plate behind pair of long balls along with a hard RBI single right back up the middle for four total RBIs in the rout of Nevada by a Fresno State team that has now won 10 of its past 12 home games.
Bulldogs' shortstop Chris Mariscal also posted a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 night with a RBI. In all, seven 'Dogs scored in the series-clinching win.
Nevada (24-29, 11-18 MW) dropped its sixth straight game with southpaw starter Tyler Wells (4-5) giving up nine runs (five earned) over four innings. The Pack's leadoff batter and first baseman Kewby Meyer led all hitters by pounding out a perfect 5-for-5 offensive effort.
Fresno State and Nevada finish up the series and regular season on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. PT.
The Bulldogs' seniors Trent Garrison and Austin Wynns will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday celebrating their Fresno State careers. Garrison (Kinesiology) and Wynns (Criminology) are two of 69 Fresno State student-athletes that will receive their degrees during the university's 102nd Commencement ceremony on Saturday morning.
