Bayardi Named To MW Preseason All-Conference Team

LAS VEGAS ( - UNLV senior Brandon Bayardi was named to the 2013 Mountain West Preseason All-Conference Baseball Team as an outfielder, the league announced Friday. This is the third consecutive year that he has earned the honor.

Bayardi led the Rebels last season in batting average (.361), hits (74), home runs (7), RBI (53) and stolen bases (12). It was the third year that the Arizona native led the team in home runs and RBI. The Brophy College Prep product was also a member of the 2012 All-MW First Team.

The conference also announced its annual preseason poll. Defending MW champ, New Mexico, was the overwhelming favorite, garnering five of the six first-place votes and totaling 35 points. San Diego State took the only other first place vote and was picked second with 25 points. Conference newcomers, Nevada, Reno and Fresno State, were tabbed third and fourth with 23 and 22 points respectively. UNLV was projected fifth with 13 points and Air Force rounds out the conference with seven points.

The Rebels will open the season in one week on February 15 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium where they will have a four-game series against Tennessee of the Southeastern Conference.
