– UNLV baseball junior outfielder Brandon Bayardi earned honorable mention preseason All-America by College Baseball Insider, announced the national publication today.

Bayardi, who has led the Rebels in home runs and RBI each of his first two years, was a 2011 First Team All-Mountain West selection after batting .325 (53-for-163) with 10 home runs and 51 RBI, helping the Rebels to a 33-25 mark in head coach Tim Chambers’ first season at UNLV. The 33 wins marked the most since the 2006 season for the Rebels.

The Phoenix, Ariz., native was also recently selected to the preseason All-Mountain West team and voted as one of the top three best pure hitters and biggest power threats in the conference for the second straight season and earned the title of the hitter that coaches would least like to face this season.

UNLV, picked second in the preseason Mountain West poll, will open the season on the road, traveling to Los Angeles for a three-game weekend series with Loyola Marymount, Feb. 17-19 before taking on UC Irvine on Feb. 20.
