ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.  - Even though the season has officially started, Mitch Garver and DJ Peterson received one last preseason All-America honor as they were both named to's first team.

The All-America honors streamed in this offseason for the offensive leaders of the Lobos as each was named preseason First Team All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Collegiate Baseball newspaper, and Peterson also garnered second team honors from Baseball America.

The Lobos lost two of three against Oklahoma State during the opening weekend, but Peterson and Garver still produced. Peterson, a junior third baseman from Gilbert, Ariz., finished the weekend hitting .455 (5-for-11) with a double, a triple, a grand slam, four runs scored, and six RBI. Each time the Cowboys walked him intentionally, however, Garver came through with a run-scoring hit. The senior catcher from La Cueva High School in Albuquerque hit .462 (6-for-13) over the weekend with a double, a triple, three runs and five RBI. He slugged .692 and had an on-base percentage of .563. He was also flawless in the field on 31 chances and recorded six assists from behind the plate.
