Lobo Baseball Opens at No. 28 in Nation for Attendance Over Opening Weekend
Feb. 20, 2012
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has released its first weekly attendance report of the season and the New Mexico Lobos have come in at No. 28 after their home opening weekend series against the University of Nevada.
“To be in the top 30 in attendance is huge,” head coach Ray Birmingham said. “Lobo baseball continues to grow in a very positive way.”
The Lobos had a very completive series against the Nevada Wolf Pack. Each game was decided by two runs or less. UNM came out of the series 1-2, but took away many positives, including what looks to be a nice 1-2 punch for Friday and Saturday night starting pitchers in Austin House and Sam Wolff.
“We're building for the future and building down the road, and there's a good baseball team here and it's going to be a good baseball team,” Birmingham said. "We lost two close ballgames and won one close ballgame and I feel really good about the future. I think things are going to be really good."
Only one other Mountain West school (TCU) made the cut for top attendance over opening weekend.
