This is Fresno State's first season as a member of the Mountain West after winning seven straight Western Athletic Conference titles, including the 2012 WAC Tournament crown.
Fresno State's Aaron Judge won the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Baseball Home Run Derby and enters the 2013 season with three Preseason All-American honors.
Judge went 5-for-13 during opening weekend, with a home run, double and two RBI.
Trent Garrison (6-for-11, double) and Jordan Luplow (4-for-11, HR, double, 5 runs and 4 stolen bases) also led the Bulldogs at the plate during opening weekend.
Luplow's 4-for-4 stolen base effort on opening night tied a Mountain West single-game record and leads the MW for total stolen bases this year.
Fresno State owns three of the four home runs hit by Mountain West players.
Fresno State and Stanford played each other four times in 2012 - three times in Fresno and once during the NCAA Stanford Regional.
Fresno State Visits No. 15 Stanford for Three-Game Series
Fresno State visits the Pacific-12's Stanford Cardinal for a three-game series from Feb. 22-24. The Friday night contest will start at 5:30 p.m. PT, while the Saturday and Sunday games will have their first pitches thrown out at 1 p.m. PT. All three games will be broadcast on the 940 AM ESPN Radio with veteran Bulldog Baseball play-by-play announcer Paul Loeffler calling the action Friday and Sunday, and David Lombardi providing the call on Saturday. #DiamondDogs Win Season Opener, Drop Opening Series to UCSB
Fresno State seniors Austin Wynns and Trent Garrison led the Bulldogs to a season-opening 8-1 win on Feb. 15 against UC Santa Barbara. The duo accounted for five hits and all six of the 'Dogs' RBI on the evening. Sophomore pitcher William Munro (1-0) picked up the win in his seventh career start in five innings pitched, giving up three hits, while striking out three. UCSB responded and took the final two games of the series (8-1 and 11-3).
About the Stanford Cardinal
Stanford enters the weekend 2-2 on the season and fresh off a 5-0 win over longtime rival California in the Cardinal's home opener. Stanford dropped its season-opening series on the road at Rice. The Cardinal earned a 3-2 win, along with 5-1 and 3-0 losses to the Owls. Stanford, who advanced to the Tallahassee Super Regional in 2012, feature unanimous Preseason First-Team All-American senior pitcher Mark Appel. The 2012 NCBWA Pithcer of the Year, Appel lost just twice in 2012, with the first lost coming to Fresno State when the Bulldogs defeated the Cardinal 7-4 on March 2, 2012 at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno.
Judge, Wynns Tabbed as Preseason All-Americans
Fresno State junior outfielder Aaron Judge earned three Preseason All-America selections and senior catcher Austin Wynns collected third-team Preseason All-American honors from Louisville Slugger. Judge, a native of Linden, Calif., enters his third season with the Bulldogs was named to Baseball America's first-team. He also was honored by the Perfect Game and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as a second-team All-American. During his sophomore season, he hit .308 with 27 RBI and 13 stolen bases to earn first-team all-conference accolades. Wynns is one of two seniors on the Bulldogs' squad.
Judge, Garrison Garner MW Preseason Honors, 'Dogs Picked 4th The Mountain West's head coaches selected Fresno State's Aaron Judge and Trent Garrison as preseason All-MW honorees while projecting the 'Dogs to finish fourth in their inaugural season in the conference. Defending Mountain West champion New Mexico is predicted to win its second consecutive regular season MW baseball title in 2013, according to a vote of the six MW head coaches. The Lobos received five first-place votes and 35 points overall. San Diego State received the remaining first-place vote and 26 points to edge out MW newcomers Nevada (23 points) and Fresno State (22 points) for second place. UNLV was picked fifth (13 points), followed by Air Force in sixth (7 points).
