WHAT'S ON TAP THIS WEEK IN AZTEC BASEBALL
After splitting contests against UC Riverside on Monday and Tuesday (April 1-2), SDSU returns home to host a three-game conference series against Nevada that gets underway on Friday (April 5) at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The teams will also meet for contests on Saturday (April 6) and Sunday (April 7) at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. respectively.

SERIES RECORDS
The Aztecs have a record of 5-6 against Nevada with their last meeting coming in 2009, a 5-3 SDSU win in San Diego. Prior to that the squads had not faced off since the 2002 campaign. San Diego State has a mark of 1-3 vs. the Wolf Pack in San Diego, 1-2 in Reno and 3-1 on neutral fields.

MUNO GOES DEEP
First baseman Ryan Muno connected for his first home run of the season on Monday (April 1) vs. UC Riverside, a three-run shot deep over the left field fence at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Muno made his return to the lineup vs. UNLV on March 22 after missing five weeks with a broken hand suffered during practice on Feb. 19. In his seven games since his return, he is hitting .481 (13-for-27) with six doubles, a home run, 10 runs scored and seven RBI. He has scored at least once in seven of the last eight contests.

DERBY SAVES
Freshman closer Bubba Derby made one appearance last weekend during the series at New Mexico, tossing the final inning of SDSU's 13-6 win in the series finale. The previous weekend he was involved in both of SDSU's wins over UNLV. Derby has made a total of 12 relief appearances this season covering 15.1 innings and has struck out 20 batters and surrendered only two walks. His six saves rank second in the Mountain West this week.

ROMANSKI GETS ON
Catcher Jake Romanski has reached base safely (via hit, walk or hit by pitch) in each of the last 14 games. In SDSU's last three games (at New Mexico and two vs. UC Riverside) he was 7-for-13 (.538) including two hits and an RBI Tuesday night at UCR. His five-hit effort at Fresno State on March 16 was a career high and the only five-hit game by an Aztec this season.

ROBARDS GETS SECOND WIN
Sophomore lefty Mike Robards recorded his second win of the year Monday night against UC Riverside. In that contest he went seven innings allowing one run on five hits with a walks and a season-high six strikeouts. He recorded his first win of the season as the starting pitcher against Long Beach State on March 19. He went 5.2 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits with three strikeouts. RoBards made four relief appearances prior to his three starts and has moved into the role of SDSU's mid-week starting pitcher.

ZIER HITS AWAY
Second baseman Tim Zier has a modest five-game hitting streak in progress during which he has gone 8-for-20 (.400) with a double, five runs scored and five RBI. He had a career-high four hits in the win over Long Beach State on March 19. Over the past nine contests he is batting .343 (12-for-35) with eight RBI and nine runs scored.

AZTEC NOTES
Freshman right-hander Tyler Sapp made his first collegiate start a good one as he went seven innings allowing one run on three hits with two walk and seven strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision at UC Riverside on April 2 ... First baseman Mitch Bluman had a season-high two hits and three RBI in the series finale at New Mexico on March 30 ... Tim Zier leads the team with seven multiple-RBI games followed by Ty France with five ... Zier is batting .417 (15-for-36) with runners in scoring position ... Zier, France and Greg Allen are the only three players to have started all 29 games for the Aztecs this season ... Philip Walby's .201 opponent batting average ranks second in the conference this week while Michael Cederoth's mark of .220 is sixth ... The Aztecs are 0-14 when scoring three runs or less and 14-1 when scoring four or more.
