Wilson Named Mountain West Co-Player Of The Week

April 9, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State outfielder/catcher Chris Wilson has been named Mountain West Baseball Co-Player of the Week for games played from April 2-8, 2012. He shared the award with New Mexico's DJ Peterson.

Wilson, a senior from San Diego, Calif., led the Aztecs to a 3-1 week, including a sweep of UNLV for the first time since 2001 to move into a tie for second place in the MW standings. Wilson had a rough start to the week without a hit against No. 14 Cal State Fullerton in a 7-1 loss.

He rebounded by batting .500 (7-for-14) in the three-game series with UNLV. In the 12-6 series opener, Wilson was 3-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored, a double, a home run and two walks. His intentional walk in the top of the 11th built some cushion in the Aztecs' lead and led to a 6-3 win in the second game of the series.

In the 9-5 series finale, Wilson was 4-for 5 with an SDSU-record tying three doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. He was 7-for-18 (.389) for the week.

San Diego State returns to action Tuesday night (April 10) with a contest against Long Beach State set for a 6:00 p.m. start at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
