Rebels Travel To California For Two Games

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team will hit the road for its final midweek road series, traveling to Riverside, Calif. for a two-game set Tuesday and Wednesday against UC Riverside at The Riverside Sports Complex.
The Rebels (17-19, 2-10 Mountain West) are coming off their second weekend series win of the year, taking three of four games from Nebraska-Omaha this past weekend at Wilson Stadium. The UNLV offense averaged nearly 12 runs per game, including a 20-1 win in the series finale on Sunday. The 20 runs marked the third time this season the Rebels had scored at least 20 runs in a game.
UNLV will return Wednesday night following a 3 p.m. game and prepare for a crucial weekend series against Air Force. The Rebels enter this weekend one game behind the Falcons in the latest Mountain West standings with four weeks and 12 conference games left in the season.

RIVERSIDE, GIMMIE TWO
The UNLV baseball team will take its talents to Riverside, California this week for a two-game series against the Highlanders at the Riverside Sports Complex.
UNLV took three of four games against Nebraska-Omaha this past weekend, marking their second weekend series win of the year. The lone weekend series win prior came against Washington State, March 9-11.
The midweek set will mark the Rebels’ final midweek road games, as UNLV will play host to UC Riverside May 1 and 2 at Wilson Stadium, marking their final midweek games of the 2012 season.
SCOUTING UC RIVERSIDE
UC Riverside enters this week’s two-game series with a 10-18 overall record, including just a 2-6 mark in the month of April.
The Highlanders are coming off a series loss against CSU Bakersfield over the weekend, falling 2-1 and 6-3 after taking the opener, 7-0.
Eddie Young leads the team from the plate with a .340 average (32-for-94) in 28 games started. Young has five doubles and 13 RBI to his credit and has drawn 20 walks so far this year.
Vince Gonzalez (.333, 34-for-102) ranks second on the team in average and first in doubles (6), RBI (15) while Phil Holinsworth enters the series with a .260 average (27-for-104) and leads the team in extra-base hits with 10, including three triples and two home runs.
Trevor Frank will toe the rubber Tuesday night at the Riverside Sports Complex. Frank is 0-5 with a 4.91 ERA in eight appearances, including seven starts this season. He has logged 40.1 innings of work, striking 23 and walking 12 while maintaining a .292 average against.
Wednesday’s starter for the Highlanders has yet to be announced.
UC RIVERSIDE SERIES NOTES
-UNLV is 10-18 all-time against UC Riverside.
-The Highlanders have won 13 of the previous 15 matchups, including the last four games.
-UNLV is 3-11 at UC Riverside, and have only won once in the City of Art & Innovation since 1967.
-Last season, the Rebels dropped two heartbreakers, losing to the Highlanders by one run in each of their two games.
-Brandon Bayardi has played well against the Highlanders as he has a .647 batting average (11-for-17) in four games with 10 RBI. He went 6-for-9 with four RBI in two games last season.
