Fresno State Hosts Air Force for Rare Five-Game Weekend Series

About the Air Force Falcons
The Falcons enter the five-game weekend series against the 'Dogs in fifth-place in the Mountain West standings with a 4-9 record and an overall mark of 10-23 this season. Prior to Tuesday's midweek matchup versus Northern Colorado being canceled due to inclement weather the Falcons hosted San Diego State in a three-game series last weekend. AFA dropped the opener 4-2 to the Aztecs, bounced back with a 10-9 walk-off win on Saturday and fell in the rubber match 11-0. Away from Falcon Field, Air Force is 1-15 on the season with its last win coming against Nevada on March 17 and have dropped six in a row on the road since its win against the Wolf ack. Air Force is led by two-time All-MW catcher Garrett Costons who is batting .361 on the year, which ranks fifth-best in the MW. Costons is one of three Falcons to return from last season's starting lineup that placed fifth in the MW (14-39, 5-19 MW) under third year coach Mike Kazlausky.
Here Comes The Judge!
Fresno State junior outfielder Aaron Judge has been ruling pitchers throughout his career and stepped onto the national stage last July when he won the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Baseball Home Run Derby in Omaha. This season, Judge leads the Bulldogs with a .336 batting average, a .424 on base percentage, a .544 slugging percentage, 42 hits, five home runs, 19 total runs scored, 19 walks, nine doubles, one triple and 68 total bases. He is also 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
Seniors Provide Veteran Leadership, Significant Impact
Fresno State seniors Trent Garrison and Austin Wynns both are batting over .275 with a combined total of 61 hits, 29 runs batted in, 27 runs scored, 12 doubles, two triples, and 17 walks. Garrison alone has successfully stolen three bases this year in four attempts.
Velazquez Stepping into Key Role on the Mound
In his first season as a Bulldog, Fresno State sophomore right-hander Derick Velazquez has frustrated opposing batters and already earned a Mountain West weekly accolade for his complete game win over USC. Velazquez, a sophomore from Los Banos, Calif., didn't allow an earned run over nine strong innings of work in the win over the Trojans. Velazquez had a shutout going until the final out of the contest when an unearned run crossed the plate on a walk. In the last week of March, he started both of Fresno State's victories, including a 4-0 shutout of MW foe Nevada. This season, Velazquez has posted a 4.82 earned run average, started nine games, and pitched one complete game. While giving up just 25 earned runs, he has held opponents to .304 batting.
