Rebels And Falcons Set For Weekend Series

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team will host the Air Force Academy this weekend in a crucial Mountain West series starting Friday night at Wilson Stadium.
The Rebels (17-21, 2-10 Mountain West) trail the Falcons (9-25, 3-9 Mountain West) by one game entering this weekend's series with just three weeks of conference games remaining on the schedule. Air Force took two of three games from UNLV in the first meeting back in late March in Colorado Springs.
Game 1 - Erick Fedde (3-3, 2.86 ERA) vs. Cameron White (2-6, 4.86 ERA)
Game 2 - Zak Qualls (4-2, 3.48 ERA) vs. Ben Bertelson (0-7, 6.75 ERA)
Game 3 - Buddy Borden (1-3, 4.24 ERA) vs. Evan Abrecht (3-2, 3.47 ERA)
UNLV and Air Force will meet this weekend for a three-game set in Las Vegas at Wilson Stadium.
The Rebels enter the crucial Mountain West series a game behind the Falcons in the standings for the fourth and final spot in the 2012 Mountain West Championship Tournament, to be held at Wilson Stadium, May 24-27.
Air Force took two of three games from the Rebels back in late March, marking just the third series win over UNLV in Colorado.
SCOUTING AIR FORCE
Air Force enters this weekend’s series having dropped 11 of its last 13 games since a series win over UNLV March 23-25 in Colorado Springs.
The Falcons were swept at TCU last weekend before recording an 8-1 win over Regis at home this past Tuesday.
AFA will have to do without the services of its leading hitter, Garrett Custons, who suffered an injury while catching during the TCU series. Custons was hitting .346 with 18 extra-base hits, including a team-leading four home runs to go along with 17 RBI prior to his injury.
Alex Bast is the second leading hitter, checking in with a .323 (42-for-130) average in 34 games started. Bast has 14 extra-base hits and a team-leading 24 RBI on the year.
Seth Kline missed the first part of the 2012 season but has shined in the past 16 games, hitting .327 (18-for-55) with three doubles, a triple and a home run to go with 12 RBI.
Cameron White will throw in the series-opener Friday night for the Falcons. White enters the game with a 2-6 record and 4.86 ERA. He ranks second on the team in innings pitched with 53.2 and has two complete games along with 45 strikeouts to his name.
Ben Bertelson will look to pick up his first win of the year in game two. Bertelson is 0-7 with a 6.75 ERA this season in 42.2 innings pitched. The lefty has a team-high 47 strikeouts against 26 walks with two complete games.
Evan Abrecht will close out the series on the hill for AFA on Sunday. Abrecht is 3-2 witha 3.47 ERA this year in 59.2 innings worked. He has three complete games and one shutout to go along with 43 strikeouts and 13 walks.
