RoBards Named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week
April 29, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore Mike Robards has earned Mountain West Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors for games played from April 22-28, 2013. It is his first MW weekly recognition.
RoBards, a left-hander from Oceanside, Calif. (Oceanside HS), led the Aztecs to an 18-2 win over UC Irvine on Tuesday night. He allowed just one run on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts while tossing 7.1 innings in a starting role. The Anteaters were ranked in the Top 25 last week in two of the top four national polls - No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches poll and No. 22 in the NCBWA rankings.
In the Aztecs' series finale against Fresno State on Sunday, RoBards entered the game in the eighth inning to get the third out with two Bulldog runners in scoring position. He struck out the first batter of the ninth to preserve a save situation for closer Bubba Derby in the 4-2 win.
San Diego State returns to action Monday afternoon when it hosts San Francisco in a contest scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
