May 3, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU junior catch Josh Elander was named first-team Capital One Academic All-District VII. The honor is the first for the Elander. He will advance to the All-American ballot.

Elander boasts a 3.42 GPA as a communications major. He ranks second on the team with a .317 batting average and 29 RBIs. Elander leads the squad with six home runs, 11 stolen bases and 28 walks. The juniors is the only Horned Frog to have played in and started all 42 games this season.

The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
