Rebels Host New Mexico Friday-Sunday
May 10, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The end of the 2012 season is fast approaching as the UNLV baseball team has just two regular-season series' remaining. This weekend's set with New Mexico at Earl E. Wilson Stadium (Fri. 6:05 pm, Sat. 2:05 pm, Sun. 1:05 pm) represents the final Mountain West series of the year as well as the last homestand. The Rebels will travel to Sacramento State, May 18-20, to close out the regular season with three games against the Hornets.
UNLV enters play this weekend, trailing Air Force by just one game in the Mountain West standings. The Rebels and Falcons are battling for the final berth in this year's Mountain West tournament, to be held on UNLV's home field, May 24-27. UNLV has just three Mountain West games remaining (this weekend vs. UNM) while the Falcons have six conference games to go, three vs. UNM and three vs. TCU.
The Rebels enter this weekend with some momentum after picking up a dramatic, come-from-behind victory at San Diego State last Sunday. UNLV's bats had been silent all day until the team finally broke through for a run in the eighth. The Rebels then scored four more in the ninth to take the lead and ultimately the game, 5-4.
The Mountain West-leading Lobos swept the most recent meeting with UNLV in Albuquerque, April 27-29, with the Rebels posting a sweep of their own last year (2011) in Las Vegas, April 29-May 1, 2011.
