Morrison Receives Weekly MW Honor
May 21, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- TCU freshman Preston Morrison has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after his one-hit 4-0 shutout Saturday versus San Diego State.
Morrison tossed TCU's first complete-game one-hitter since Derek Lew against Baylor on April 6, 1996.
A native of Waxhaw, N.C., Morrison retired 22 consecutive batters in one stretch against the Aztecs. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. The only hit he surrendered was a single up the middle in the second inning.
Morrison improved to 9-0 on the season, the best mark by a TCU pitcher since Matt Purke, also a freshman, posted a 16-0 record in the Horned Frogs' 2010 run to the College World Series.
Morrison has not allowed a run in his last 19 2/3 innings. He has a 1.55 ERA on the season while holding opposing batters to a .189 average.
It's the second straight week and third time this season that Morrison has received Pitcher of the Week honors from the MW.
The 20th-ranked Horned Frogs open MW Tournament play Thursday at 5 p.m. CDT versus San Diego State in Las Vegas.
